Description
In 1975, Neil Young released Tonight’s The Night, an album that is widely regarded as one of the masterpieces in his catalog. The album was recorded in 1973, following the major success of his album Harvest, but it was not released for two more years. The album is dedicated to two of Neil’s close friends, Danny Whitten and Bruce Berry, who both died in the year before this album was recorded.
Recorded on analog tape, Tonight’s The Night includes some of Young’s most brilliant and emotionally moving songs. In addition to the two versions of the title track, the album features “Borrowed Tune”, “World on a String”, “Mellow My Mind”, “Tired Eyes”, “Come On Baby Let’s Go Downtown”, "Albuquerque” and “Roll Another Number (For The Road)”. For the 50th anniversary edition of this album, Young has replaced “Lookout Joe” with an unreleased version, also from the original album sessions at SIR studios in 1973.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Tonight’s The Night, the album has been expanded with six additional songs. The versions of “Walk On” and “Tonight’s The Night [take 3]” have never been released. “Everybody’s Alone”, “Raised On Robbery” (featuring Joni Mitchell) and “Speakin’ Out Jam” were included on Neil Young Archives Vol. II, and the version of “Wonderin’” has only been available to stream on NYA. None of the bonus tracks have been previously released on vinyl.
